Landmark Baptist Church was founded on February 24, 1984 in a renovated house on the west end of Morristown, God burdened the heart of Bro. David Epps to establish a church. Brother Epps was elected as the first pastor of Landmark. Twenty-two people came forward that night to become the first members of the church. Pastor Epps recommended the name of the church to be Landmark Baptist Church in reference to the scripture: Proverbs 23:10 "Remove not the old landmark."

On September 4, 1984, Brother Dale Seay and Brother Don Pierce, were ordained as the first two deacons of Landmark Baptist Church.

In the summer of 1985, the first phase of building began, which was the basement portion, to be used as the place of worship.

On May 14, 1986, the Radel family became the first missionaries to be supported by Landmark Baptist Church.

In the summer of 1988 the auditorium of the church was built.

In the summer of 1992 after eight years as pastor, Brother Epps resigned from Landmark in answer to a burden from God to go into the prison and jail ministry as a missionary.

On July 29, Brother Howard Seal was elected the pastor of Landmark.

On January 10, 1993, Brother Floyd Roark was ordained as a deacon, after proving himself to be faithful.

On December 10, 1994, the Lord saw fit to take Brother Seal home to Glory.

After a period of 13 months without a pastor, praying and seeking God’s will, Brother Tom Severt was elected pastor on January 26, 1996.

On December 31, 1998, the final payment was made on the church building. To God be the Glory!

We, as Landmark Baptist Church family, thank and praise the Lord Jesus Christ for his many blessings. May God continue to bless this body of people til he comes.

Pastor, Tom Severt
